ACE11 – Virtually There!

May 26, 2011 Leave a comment

In the last couple of years, I have participated in an increasing number of product demos, meetings and presentations by sitting in my office chair and logging onto that miracle of modern technology: the internet. Although, in my opinion, nothing beats face-to-face interactions, video conferencing and Go2Meeting type computer sharing have made interactions that can’t be face-to-face much more productive. And you can’t argue the cost effectiveness of attending a two-hour online meeting versus being there via a four-hour flight.

This year, AWWA has jumped on board the online experience and is offering “virtual attendance” to portions of the ACE11 conference. Like universities who are offering “online classrooms”, this will allow more people who normally cannot attend access to some of the information presented during the conference (AWWA promises over ten hours of live ACE content plus five additional videos) for a fraction of the cost of attending in person. If you’re interested, check out their website.

I hope this is a sign of things to come and look forward to more advances in knowledge sharing technologies.
